My partner, Sydney Long, and I, were assigned a project for the semester to do a dental experiment. We chose to compare the effect of coffee V.S. coke on our teeth, specifically stains. This experiment is relevant because it spreads awareness to all coffee and coke lovers, reminding them to take proper care.
This experiment was over the course of one month. We maintained our daily routines in regards of brushing twice a day, rinsing, and flossing with the exception that Sydney drank coffee once a day every day, and i did the same but with coca-cola. This was the turn out:
Presley: Research stated that because of the dark, caramel dye in coke, staining is a likely result. Coca- cola also contains a lot more sugar than coffee, which can produce acid that erodes the tooth enamel, making stains more likely to occur and cavities, too.
Sydney: Sydney discovered that coffee contains ingredients called "tannins" which cause color compounds to stick to your teeth and end up leaving an unwanted yellow stain.
Conclusion: They both stain pretty badly if teeth are not treated with proper care after consuming coca- cola or coffee, but coca- cola left my teeth with a darker stain and appeared sooner than Sydney's Stains.
